Twitter Shmitter, and Mastodon

I’ve been using Twitter for many years. I actually thought I could ride out the recent changes its owner has decided to bring about.

Last night, with the cutoff date looming, I deleted two third-party apps I was using and opened the Windows Twitter app. I was getting some help with an issue, then suddenly I couldn’t tweet any more. It seems Twitter is going paid for the most part. Free accounts will be severely curtailed as to how many tweets can be sent. Probably the same goes for direct messages.

I’ve looked at Mastodon, since that’s where the blind masses are flocking, but I cannot for the life of me get my brain wrapped around it. I don’t know anyone on Mastodon, not enough to warrant me switching to it anyway.

  1. Mastodon isn’t any place for conservatives so I won’t be going there. The Twitter app opens using Microsoft Edge, and the iPhone, well, it gets those notifications. They’re easy enough to clear.

  2. I use firefox, so I just ignore the strange stuff. I’ve heard the same thing about the notifications. If ever you try mastadawn, it would be interesting to have your thoughts.

  3. Good luck with Mastodon.

One can turn such notifications off somehow, at least so I’ve been told. I just let it slide and clear the notifications I get in the Twitter app.

  4. I use twitter, but have been getting rather wierd notifications from people I don’t know. I’ve been thinking of trying out mastadawn but can’t quite get my head around it. Guess I’ll try it out sometime. Mastadawn that is.
