Audacity and Audio.com

I had been seeing, in the help menu of Audacity, something about linking Audio.com account, and wondering how big a deal it would be to do so. Yesterday, I found out, and at the moment, it isn’t for the faint-hearted.

I looked around on Audio.com’s website on how to get a token to put in that field that comes up in Audacity, but I had no success in finding it, so I wrote an email to them. A guy named Ilia came back to me promptly and pointed me to a tutorial on how to do it. The tutorial said I should click the Share Audio button in Audacity and a few other steps. The problem came when I tried to find that button in Audacity. I could see it when I read the window with insert b, but even using object navigation I couldn’t seem to locate that elusive button. After some discussion with Ilia, he told me to bring up Narrator and find it that way, but I had no results with Narrator. After some fiddling around I finally found the button in question and was able to link the Audio.com account.

I made the suggestion to Ilia that there should be an easier way to get such a token, something like get token by email, and he said he’d throw it back to the team. So, hopefully, in the future, someone who is less skilled can link Audacity and Audio.com.

I don’t know that I’ll ever post anything from Audacity on Audio.com, but I have the two linked, so it’s possible now, should I ever get proficient enough using Audacity to work up something worth posting.
