Skype, a Partial Goodbye

Today I had to make a decision that I thought I’d never have to make.

When I opened Skype on my computer, I suddenly saw this crazy news window. At first I couldn’t get Skype to close, nor could I get rid of the news window. When I finally got Skype to close I brought it back up to see if the news window had disappeared. It came back with a vengeance, so I uninstalled it. I still have it on my iPhone, and as long as it stays usable on the phone I’ll keep it. I’ve always preferred the audio quality on the computer, so I’m really saddened that I had to make this decision. Skype on the phone is just not as good as it is, was, on my computer.

Oh, Microsoft, how could you do this to such a good program!

  1. Here’s another update for what it’s worth. The Skype I got from Ninite doesn’t update in the Microsoft Store. I just got an update for it today through CCleaner. I don’t know if this has anything to do with why I can’t show the Skype icon in the system tray or not. I just thought I’d mention it.

  2. It’s doing the same as it was since my last update. I still can’t make its icon show without clicking the show hidden icons button in the system tray.

  3. Well, last update, most likely. Younger brother Richard suggested I go to Ninite and get Skype that way. It worked and I got past the stupid news window this time. The only thing is, and this bothers me more than it should, is that the icon for Skype is hidden in the system tray, and it’s showing pressed in personalization, so the icon should show, but it’s hidden, ugh.

Oh well, I’m done griping I guess.

  4. Here’s an interesting update. Today, just for the heck of it, I went to the store to see if I could reinstall Skype, but now it’s part of Office 365, so it’s really goodbye to Skype on the computer. I’ll never get Office.

  5. I don’t think that’s doable any more. At least I don’t know how to do it, and it updates in the store, sometimes automatically, and doesn’t inform me it’s doing so.
