Well, hello, faithful follower or followers. A few days ago I was chatting with a lovely friend, and she offered me a German course. Well, I never turn down a German course, even if I can’t get much out of it, so I said I’d love to have it. She downloaded it, zipped it up and sent me a link and it turns out that I can, and did, delete the book I downloaded from my library. I now have, well, almost the whole Pimsleur German course. I have five levels now. The book from BARD only had the first eight units in level one.
You might ask, "Why do you say it’s incomplete?" To that I’d have to answer that the booklet or booklets included with the course aren’t present. While there is a PDF at the end of each folder, that PDF is just the user’s guide, not the complete text present in the audio files. If it had been the entire text I might could’ve converted it, somehow, to a Braille-formatted file. There may have been mistakes introduced by such a translation that would then have to be proofread, but, alas, it wasn’t to be.
Still, I do appreciate having all five levels rather than what I had before.
I did some research on Paul Pimsleur, the one responsible for creating this course, and found out he died in 1976, suddenly, of a heart attack. His teaching method involves lots of repetition and I find it a bit taxing, but I’ll go through this course, without Braille text, and see what I learn, if anything.
